Animal Nursery – FREE

This year the popular Animal Nursery will feature more than 450 animals of 18 different varieties to meet and cuddle! The Animal Nursery will house a large patting pen that will extend outside to include alpacas, lambs, kids, calves, pigs, chooks, emus, ducklings and rabbits.

You can also feed one of the animals at one of the scheduled Animal Nursery Feeding Times as well as watch the interactive wildlife show that is Animals of Oz.

The patting pen also extends outdoors where families can get up close to a range of animals. See all your favourites including alpacas, lambs, kids, calves, chooks, emus, ducklings and rabbits.

Commonwealth Bank Farm Discovery Trail – FREE

Designed for kids of all ages, the Commonwealth Bank Farm Discovery Trail provides a unique opportunity to learn about life in the country in a fun, educational and interactive atmosphere.

The aim is to complete the Commonwealth Bank Farm Discovery Trail by visiting the stations, learning about agricultural industries and answering a simple question in the free Commonwealth Bank Farm Discovery Trail booklet. The stations include:

Start Point

  • Learn how to milk a cow at The Dairy Experience and in the Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion

Stations

  • Dig for spuds at The Potato Patch in Flowers, Gardening and Pets Pavilion
  • Pot your own plant at Little Green Thumbs in the NGIV Discovery Garden
  • Can you guess which type of hen laid which egg at the Happy Hen House: Match the eggs in the Sustainable Backyard
  • Hand feed the baby animals at Feeding Time in the Shearing Shed
  • Learn all about the Australian beef cattle industry and why it’s important for farmers to come to the Show at the Beef Experience in the Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion

Finish Point

  • The Commonwealth Bank stand in the Grand Pavilion

Kids must complete a minimum of five stations to collect their prize at the Commonwealth Bank stand in the Grand Pavilion.

Visit the Victorian Government Exhibition for a free fun, interactive and educational experience at this year's Show. Daily performances include arts workshops, interactive kids' games, and live performances throughout the Show. The Victorian Government Exhibition will be open from 10.00am – 6.00pm each day.

Channel Nine Comes to the Royal Melbourne Show – FREE

Ever wanted to be a TV weather presenter? In a truly interactive experience, visitors to the Channel Nine Royal Melbourne Show site can try their hand at presenting the forecast in front of the camera. With the weather map behind you and an autocue to read from, we'll record your TV debut which you can then send to all your friends. We predict sun shine!

There will be lots of other exciting activities inside the Channel Nine site with something for people of every age to enjoy. Head to the Kids Zone to get in on the action!

Pura New Milking Barn – FREE

The Pura New Milking Barn in the Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion is a hands on FREE activity. Giving you the unique opportunity to milk a cow, the Pura New Milking Barn is fun for the whole family!

Potato Patch – FREE

Get your hands dirty and dig as hard as you can to locate your very own potato. With prizes every day for the largest potato, there's lots of fun to be had as you search for spuds! Located in the Flowers, Gardening and Pets pavilion, Potato Patch is a showcase of the Victorian Potato Industry with information and displays about the ideal conditions for growing potatoes and the best ways to cook the different varieties you find. Best of all you can take a potato home to try out some of the recipes.

The Potato Patch will be open from 9:30am – 5:00pm each day

Little Green Thumbs – FREE

Visit Little Green Thumbs in the Discovery Garden and let kids try their hand at gardening, where they have the opportunity to pot a plant and take it home to put in the garden! 10.00am – 4.00pm daily.

Feeding Time - FREE

Try your hand at feeding some of the hungry baby animals at the Show with the interactive activity of Feeding Time in both the Animal Nursery and the Shearing Shed.

Eco-Cubby – Regional Arts Victoria and City of Melbourne - FREE

eco-cubbyCome work with artists and architects, learn about eco-friendly design and build your very own fun, functional and environmentally-friendly Eco-Cubby model from recycled materials!

Run in over 25 schools, kindergartens and communities, Eco-Cubby is a workshop program that places architects and designers in schools and kindergartens to promote sustainable design. Through the development of an Eco-Cubby model, children engage in challenging dialogue to learn about, build awareness of, and take action for sustainable living.

Drop-in sessions run daily from 11am-1pm and 2-4pm in the Flowers, Gardening & Pets Pavilion.
