Royal Melbourne Show 2008

The 2007 Royal Melbourne Show featured non-stop fun over 11 days with a feast of entertainment and agricultural events set to impress everyone with many new and exciting things to see, do and experience.

Here are just some of the highlights of this year's Royal Melbourne Show!

	Thousands of music fans seeing the Australian Idol Top 9 perform live in the Herald Sun Town Square thanks to Telstra
	Almost 30,000 people viewing the Nova Racing and Diving Pigs
	More than 200,000 people visiting the Coca Cola Main Arena for the 50-plus Ragged Edge 4x4 Tough Truckin’ shows
	Capacity crowds for the 60 FREE award winning wine, cheese and beer tasting sessions at the new Cellar Door Pass Tasting Experience
	More than 2,500 school students taking part in the new Royal Melbourne Show Schools Program
	Thousands of food lovers getting involved in learning more about the fine art of cooking at the Grand Pavilion’s Chef’s Studio
	Thousands of footy fans cheering on their heroes in the AFL Football Rockstars

	More than 9,000 animals were on Show at the RMS
	The birth of three calves in the Livestock Pavilion
	More than 700 kilograms of award winning fleece on display
	The largest attendance of alpacas in the Southern Hemisphere – with more than 400 of the animals competing
	More than 4,000 dogs from 152 breeds giving the thumbs up to their new pavilion and competition arena
	The attendance of a bull weighing in at a massive 1220 kilograms
	Woodchoppers carving their way through 250 tonnes of wood during competition
	Over 1000m2 of sawdust was used in The Weekly Times Livestock Pavilion over two weeks as bedding for the livestock
	A 9yo girl was the youngest exhibitor – she has her own stud
	650 beef cattle, representing 30 different breeds were shown
	Of the 74 lambs born in the NAB Animal Nursery Discovery Farm as of Thursday morning, there were nine sets of triplets and two sets of quadruplets
	It is estimated that 90% of the Show’s overall crowd visits the NAB Animal Nursery Discovery Farm
	Over 650 sheep entered, which includes over 350 Poll Dorsets
	25 tonnes of straw will be used for alpaca, sheep and goat bedding
	There were almost 180 cats on show
	More than 1300 poultry entires were exhibited, including chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys
	37 eggs competed

	329 showbags were available at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show
	The perennial favourite, Bertie Beetle showbag was available at the special price of $1 before midday, and $2 after. Supplies ran out on Wednesday, but producers were able to refill stocks within a few hours
	Of the 329 showbags at the Royal Melbourne Show, 15 per cent of the showbags were priced at less than $5
	Most popular showbag sold was the Bertie Beetle, followed by the Girls Only, Mega Cars and Cleo

	There were 45 rides at this year’s Show, including 25 children’s rides and 20 for adults
	At least 5,000 people each day have been on the Skyview ferris wheel
