New Farm Discovery Trail for kids
Designed for kids of all ages, the new Farm Discovery Trail for kids will provide a unique opportunity for children to learn about the country in a fun, educational and interactive atmosphere.
The Farm Discovery Trail for kids exposes children to all the Show highlights as well as amazing experiences including;-
- Milk a cow in the new Milking Barn
- Cuddle baby animals in the NAB Animal Nursery Discovery Farm
- Make a surprise at the VAFI Working with Wood activity
- Show their artistic flair at the Dairy Australia painting mural
- See living organism under the microscope at the Waterwatch trailer
- Pat a weaner pig at the Pigs and People display
- Enjoying kid's character shows like Kung Fu Panda, Garfield and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
The Farm Discovery Trail booklet is free from three Stamping Stations at the Show, and begins at three different locations around the Showgrounds. The aim is complete the Farm Discovery Trail by visiting all 12 locations, answering a simple question at each one and collecting several giveaways along the way.
Upon completion kids will receive a certificate and prize, making the Farm Discovery Trail for kids the best way to experience the fun and excitement of the Royal Melbourne Show, and learn something new along the way!

Victorian Government Expo
Open 10.00an - 6.00pm daily
Centrally located off the Herald Sun Town Square in the heart of the Show, is the Victorian Government Expo. The best place to learn about the best of fantastic State has to offer, with plenty of interactive fun for families including Show favourites the Victoria Police, Metropolitan Fire Service and Emergency Services stands.
Wonderful World of Pets presented by Channel 7
Discover a huge variety of pets including ferrets, cats, mice, rabbits, pigeons, rats and more in the Wonderful World of Pets Pavilion. Plus enjoy a daily demonstrations program including detector dogs from the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service, responsible pet ownership, Wildlife Victoria and Victoria University.

PRO-CAL Milking Barn
New in 2008 is the Pro-Cal Milking Barn which will provide a hands-on, real life farm experience for kids. Children will be provided the unique opportunity to hand milk a cow or observe a cow being milked by the farmer.
The Milking Barn is part of the Farm Discovery Trail, with all participants earning a tasty glass of milk from Pro-Cal. Located on the lawn adjacent to the Poultry and Alpaca Pavilion.
Meat & Livestock Australia – The Beef Experience
The Beef Experience showcases beef cattle production in Australia in an entertaining, engaging way. Activities include computer games, industry history and facts and a flip-side cow that shows you where your favourite beef cuts come from.
All about Cattle – Breed Display
Beef cattle form a large and colourful part of this history of Australia. Come and see how breeds such as Angus, Murray Grey, Hereford and Charolais have influenced and continue to influence our great nation.
Livestock Infotainment
Livestock in the round is an informative, entertaining and interactive session on cattle. Presenter and beef cattle stud owner Megan Greig will talk about fun cattle facts such as what cattle eat and drink; how often they eat; why do they have four stomachs; chewing the cud; do they sleep standing up; why bos indicus have humps and floppy ears; how many cattle there are in Australia and much, much more.
